IEWorks Internship in the Water Sector

Program Duration: 10 weeks to 2 years

Location: Inland Empire Water Agencies (Specific sites TBD)

Summer/Fall dependent upon when water/wastewater utilities make internship openings available


Program Overview:

Are you interested in hands-on work? Are you enrolled at a community college trades program? Get some experience with this PAID Internship program. Students who are interested in water sector jobs are encouraged to apply.


This program provides:

  • Paid internship for 16- 24 hours/week at Water/Wastewater Agencies in and around the Inland Empire
  • Pay ranges from $16- $20 depending on internship placement site
  • Assistance with gas and safety equipment costs
  • Post-internship job placement services & referrals to job openings with Inland Empire agencies
  • Referral to local apprenticeship and civil service testing opportunities

Eligibility:

  • Resident of San Bernardino or Riverside County
  • Age 18 or older by the starting date of the internship
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Access to a vehicle
  • Enrolled in a community college trades program related to operations and maintenance positions at a water facility, such as:
    • Water Treatment/Distribution Operator
    • Waste Water Operator
    • Industrial Maintenance Mechanic/Machinist
    • Instrumentation/Electronic Maintenance Tech
    • Collection Operator
  • Interest in water/wastewater agency jobs
Application Process:

  2. Submit required documents to verify eligibility
  3. Qualified applicants with complete applications will be invited to a phone interview
  4. Selected applicants will be invited to an in-person interview
  5. Selected candidates must attend a mandatory orientation
