ONLINE & IN-PERSON CLASSES:
Online courses on Mondays from 4:30pm to 7pm
In-person classes on T/W/Th/F from 1:45pm - 4:30pm
Location: This is a remote program run by JVS. Participants will be required to enroll in Skyline College courses for in-person automotive training & Job Readiness. JVS will offer online courses: Math Refresher & Test Taking Strategies
Program Overview:

free 18-week Automotive Pre-Apprentice program. Women, BiPOC, Veterans and job seekers with previous conviction histories are encouraged to apply.
This Pre-apprenticeship Provides:
Information about specific trades/utilities, career pathways, job requirements, application process; gain practical experience in trade-specific skills, tools identification, and use:
- Automotive Entry-Level Tech Fundamentals
- Career / Soft Skills Class online-class
- Math Refresher and Test-taking Strategies online-course
- OSHA 10 Safety Certification online-course
- JVS-provided Job Readiness online-course
- Employer-sponsored on-the-job training (OJT Opportunities)
- Referral to civil service testing & employment opportunities
- Assistance with transportation and safety equipment costs
Application Process:
- Fill out the online application below
- Eligible applicants will be contacted for a phone screen
- Attend a math test prep class (strongly recommended)
- Attend a required math assessment and in-person interview
- High-scoring applicants will be accepted
- Selected candidates will be invited to attend an Onboarding Session in early August and a mandatory Welcome Orientation on Tuesday August 16th, 2022.
Eligibility:
- Age 18 or older by August 17th, 2022
- Authorized to work in the US by August 17th, 2022
- Have CDL or obtain by August 17th, 2022
- BIPOC, former foster youth, justice- involved populations (previously incarcerated), low-income, TAY (transition age youth), veterans, women encouraged to apply
- Have GED or high school diploma
- Interest in the Automotive field
- Must enroll in Skyline College Courses (AUTO 711 & AUTO 580)
- San Mateo residents preferred
- Proof of COVID-19 Vaccination required
